Southern Ocean crossing

In 2022, Niccolò Banfi embarked on a 52-day sailing expedition across the South Atlantic Ocean, covering more than 5,600 nautical miles from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Cape Town, South Africa.
The voyage traced part of Ernest Shackleton’s historic route, passing through the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetland Islands, Elephant Island, South Georgia, and the remote volcanic archipelago of Tristan da Cunha.

Sailing through some of the most isolated and unpredictable waters on the planet, Niccolò experienced both the power and fragility of the ocean, a journey that blurred the line between exploration and introspection.
